Enemy Agents

So after EasilyConfused quite rightly called me on my glacial development process, I've knuckled down over the past week to try and get my Elephant enemy agents into the game engine. I would have had them in much sooner - but after mapping and texturing the first version, I realised it didn't fit into the game at all, so I had to throw it away and start on a new version from scratch.

To avoid making this mistake again, I exported the second version to the game after each little body part was done to make sure the scale and the look fit what I was going for. The game is going to be a spy game, with an evil organization of enemy agents. The little elephant is the first enemy agent type - so I wanted him to look obviously sinister, but in a cartoony kind of way.

Disabled

There's no UV map or texture on him yet - but I have setup a basic skeleton, skinning and collision volume so he can be posed and animated. Next step is to lay down some basic animations (idle, run, etc) and get him patrolling a bit of the level.

Cheers!

Happy as I am to see an update, I really wasn't calling you, sport. I love the fact that you seem to spend forever making sure every little detail is perfect before you move on.

Yours is one of a handful of journals that I've actually gone back and read from start to finish. Maybe its because I grew up with Head Over Heels on the Spectrum, but I am totally of the belief that one day, probably years from now, this project is going to pass the magic point where it suddenly blossoms into a seriously notable indie game.

When it does, seriously, go sharewhere. I reckon after one level of this, a hundred thousand people could quite possibly pay a quid (or an Aussie dollar or whatever) for the rest of the game and you can have a couple of years off work to entertain your kids.

Wow - that's really flattering EC - thanks =)
My post was a little tongue in cheek .... and it was actually really good motivation. I've been stuck on that enemy design bit for too long, so it's really good to have something done on it. I'm really excited to have these guys running around doing something ... though unfortunately I've just noticed some corruption on the skinned mesh export, so I'll have to blow some time in the export code again before I get too carried away with animating them.

And thanks for both the comment and the encouragement rip-off - much appreciated =)
