Before you get anywhere near a game you will have to get some experience in a good paint program, one that can convert to different bit indexes. Once you have some work to show you could try to get involved in a team or if you feel competent take up an API (DX8 or OpenGL) and program you own graphics using the sprites you have made.

well,that has to be one of the most interesting questions that i have heard on these here forums.... is it easy.. well, if you are any good at what you do, that can vary.. some might find it hard and others will be tremendously bored..
I can help you pick software though. lots of people, myself included, use photoshop. however, that one has some serious learning but once again, it is all dependant on what you intend to do. but. nothin is hard with practice.
