with the partitioning software parted can you restore your harddrive like you can with fips, after you''ve done it?

If you mean delete/merge partitons without losing data do I think that Partiton Magic is the only program that does it.

Actually, as far as I remember, I had to do this once using only the Linux FDISK util. and it had work but then again, one of the partition was empty so that could have helped.
