I am a poor and frustrated win 98 user. Im looking to an alternative to windows and looking to linux. I use alot music software and I do alot of C++ coding. I like that linux is open source and I think thats its most attractive feature. How well is windows emulated on a linux system? Thanks
If you get frustrated by Win98, Linux is NOT for you. If you''re getting Linux to emulate Windows, you''re making a poor decision.

I agree with Omaha that if the main thing you want to use Linux for is emulate windows progs, it''s a bad idea. However, if you just mentioned emulation for being able to use a few of your windows programs, try either Wine (http://www.winehq.org) or VMWare (http://www.vmware.com, I think).

However, as a development environment, I personally think Linux is much better than windows. First of all, it comes with compilers and interpreters for almost any language imaginable. Second, compared to Win9x, it is MUCH more stable.

Of course, if you want stability, and are primarily thinking of running windows programs, consider Windows 2000.
